What is an adventure session?

An adventure session can be an engagement session, “day-after” session, or really any type of session you can imagine. I adore adventure sessions because they’re more than just your standard photoshoot. They’re a way to get out in nature, have a little adventure, and document this time in your lives.

I include a complimentary adventure engagement session in all of my wedding & elopement packages. There are several reasons why I do this.

1. I THINK IT’S SUPER IMPORTANT THAT WE GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER BEFORE YOUR WEDDING DAY.

As your videographer or photographer, I’ll be with you more than anyone else on your day. It can sometimes be quite an awkward situation to meet someone you’ll be spending so much time with on a day where there is already a level of stress involved. Even if we don’t get to spend time together before your day, I do everything in my power to help alleviate this awkwardness, but adventure sessions are one of the best ways to get to know each other.

2. IT GIVES YOU A CHANCE TO GET COMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA.

This is another great way to alleviate some of that stress you may be feeling on your wedding day. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, so this is a great way to practice. I really like to stand back and let your day unfold naturally, but there are still moments where you will be directly in front of the camera. As they say, practice makes perfect!

3. IT’S A GREAT EXCUSE FOR ADVENTURE!

Adventure sessions typically involve getting out in nature and exploring. There are so many things we can do, but it should definitely be something that makes you excited. Whether it be something that you love doing together regularly or a new adventure all together, the sky is the limit!

4. IF YOU’RE HIKING ON YOUR WEDDING DAY, THIS GIVES YOU A CHANCE TO BE PREPARED.

There are a few things we can do at your adventure session to prepare for your wedding day. If you choose to do your session at the same location as your wedding, it’s a great time to choose a ceremony spot, learn the terrain, and make sure your shoes are appropriate for the hike. If you choose to do your session somewhere different (most couples do), it’s still a great opportunity to make sure your shoes are comfortable. Trust me, you don’t want your feet to hurt on your wedding day.

5. YOU GET RAD PHOTOS AND A LITTLE FILM TO CELEBRATE YOUR ENGAGEMENT AND GET AMPED UP FOR YOUR DAY.

This one is pretty self explanatory! It’s always nice to have a way to remember this special time in your lives. 🙂

MARIAH & RYAN’S ENGAGEMENT SESSION IN CHIMNEY ROCK STATE PARK

I was so excited when Mariah and Ryan were open to whatever for their adventure session. I offered up a few different location ideas and they chose this stunning hike in Chimney Rock State Park. We decided to go a bit before sunset to have plenty of time to explore and watch the sun set over the mountains. They met climbing so we chose this spot with incredible boulders to have that history included in their photos.

We roamed around the top of the mountain for a while and had such a blast. They hike and mountain bike a lot, so they brought a few drinks and their chairs so they could sit together on top of the mountain and enjoy the views together. Mariah and Ryan were absolute naturals in front of the camera. It was such a great way for us all to get to know each other before their wedding.
